Sugar Candy

put 1 cup of white sugar in skillet ( not a non stick) place on low heat, stir constantly with wooden spoon until melted

Add 1 heaping teaspoon of maple syrup , continue stirring, when mixed well remove from heat

Add 1tbsp of flour, stir thoroughly until cool

( add peanuts if desired , before it hardens)

Break into pieces when completely cooled

Molasses Taffy

Bring 2 cups of sugar,1 cup molasses, 1/4 cup water and 2tsp vinegar to a boil over medium heat, cook and stir until it reaches the hard ball state ( a drop in cold water forms a rigid ball, remove from heat

stir in 2tbps of butter and 1/2 tsp of baking soda, mix well

on a lightly greased cookie sheet pour out all of the mixture, leave to cool until it can be safely handled

once cool fold taffy in half and pull to double its size, repeat until turned golden brown and too hard to pull

cut into bit size pieces, store wrapped in  wax paper
